A Fashionable Wednesday - Anna Piaggi

It's a sad fashion post today with the loss of Anna Piaggi
who has sadly passed away at the age of 81.

The extraordinary clothes she wore gave Anna, an Italian fashion journalist
a distinctive presence in the front rows and a paparazzi favourite.
Her image was used often on magazines and newspaper, either to celebrate fashion or mock it!

Anna was a muse for Karl Lagerfeld.  He produced
Lagerfeld's Sketchbook: Karl Lagerfeld's Illustration Fashion Journal of Anna Piaggi
to show his love of the fashionista and sketches from her vast wardrobe.

The impression Anna made on the fashion world is summed up here by Simon Doonan :

Anna Piaggi, editor and muse, was the greatest fashion eccentric of our time.
With her bejeweled canes, painted fans, spangly tights and flourescent muffs, she paved the way for gals like Isabella Blow and Daphne Guinness. It’s hard to look at Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj without thinking of the colorful, dada madness of La Piaggi. Her idiosyncratic style, celebrated by everyone from Antonio Lopez to Bill Cunningham to Karl Lagerfeld, played a vital role in the story of 20th Century style. Without the unbridled imagination and creative fantasy of Miss Piaggi then clothes are just clothes. Anna Piaggi gave us all a sense of possibility and fabulosity.
